The International Criminal Court (ICC) has elected a new Chief Prosecutor to replace Luis Moreno-Ocampo. The Chief Prosecutor-elect, Fatou Bensouda, is an African and former Gambian Justice Minister and currently Deputy Persecutor of the ICC. The AU has been calling upon its member states to support the election of Bensouda. Africa has been complaining of the actions of Ocampo since the indictment and arrest warrant against Omar Hussein Al Bashir, the sitting President of Sudan. Mark Twain once said “with ignorance and arrogance, success is assured”. Certainly, this does not apply to Ocampo. Even if he was arrogant and sometimes ignorant, after nearly a decade in office, the success of Ocampo during his term of office is seriously questionable.
